The European Commission, together with the Governments of Ukraine and Italy as co-organisers of the Ukraine Reconstruction Conference (URC) and its international partners, today launched new programmes in Rome to support Ukraine’s recovery and reconstruction. Slovakia, also thanks to the active approach of Eximbanka, is joining the European initiative to promote trade with Ukraine.
The new €2.3 billion package of EU agreements signed with international and bilateral public financial institutions under the Ukraine Investment Framework (UIF) includes €1.8 billion in loan guarantees and €580 million in grants.
The EU, through Eximbanka and the Slovak Agency for International Development Cooperation (SAMRS), will provide €69.5 million in guarantees and €19.3 million in grants. The funds will be used to strengthen Ukraine’s energy resilience and the stability of its electricity grid.
“Today, on behalf of Eximbanka, we participated in a major conference related to the reconstruction of Ukraine. Participants of the conference included representatives of the European Commission, Ukraine and representatives of various countries. On this occasion, Eximbanka signed a contract with the European Commission for 70 million euros and with the European Investment Fund for 20 million euros. Today’s actions have thus started a process that will lead to the implementation of concrete projects in Ukraine,” said Rastislav Podhorec, CEO of Eximbanka.
The Ukraine Investment Framework agreements were signed at today’s ceremony by Marta Kos, European Commissioner for Enlargement, on behalf of the European Commission, and Peter Kmec, Deputy Prime Minister of the Slovak Republic for the Recovery Plan and Knowledge Economy, Rastislav Podhorec, Director General of Eximbanka, and Michal Čornák, Director of SlovakAid, on behalf of Slovakia.
Eximbanka has also joined the EU’s guarantee programme for export credits to Ukraine (Ukraine Export Credit Guarantee Facility) under the umbrella of the InvestEU programme. The Ukraine Export Credit Guarantee Facility provides a total of €300 million in EIF guarantees to participating national export credit agencies, of which Eximbanka receives €20 million.
The contracts for the EIF Export Credit Pilot were signed by Teresa Cerwinska, vice president of European Investment Bank and Rastislav Podhorec, CEO of Eximbanka.
Rastislav Podhorec, CEO of Eximbanka, also discussed with David Havlíček, CEO of EGAP, the possible penetrations in mutual cooperation and met with the EU Ambassador to Ukraine Katarina Mathernová, OECD Secretary General Mathias Cormann, Czech President Petr Pavel and gave an interview on the topic to Slovak Television directly from the spot.
