Meeting in Eximbanka will open new opportunities for Slovak exports to Algeria

Representatives of Eximbanka met today, 9 March 2026, with the Algerian Ambassador to the Slovak Republic Habiba Derradji Kherrour. The meeting focused on the possibilities of development of economic cooperation and support of Slovak exports to Algeria.

The meeting was attended by Eximbanka’s CEO Ing.Rastislav Podhorec, MBA, Deputy CEOs Milan Horváth and Igor Barát and International Relations Director Matúš Šársky. The Algerian side was represented by the Ambassador together with the First Secretary Elyes Saifi.

Slovakia has a long-standing active trade balance with Algeria. In 2024, Slovak exports of goods and services to this North African country reached almost EUR 23 million. Eximbanka has historically supported exports to Algeria in the amount of approximately EUR 80 million and is ready to continue this cooperation in the future.

The strengthening of the diplomatic presence of both countries is also a positive signal for the further development of trade relations. Algeria opened its embassy in Bratislava in autumn 2025 and the Slovak Republic plans to reopen its embassy in Algeria in the short term.

North Africa is a relatively close and prospective region for Slovak companies. Algeria itself is one of the stable and economically strong countries in the region with potential for the development of business cooperation. The re-establishment of the Slovak embassy may also contribute to more effective promotion of Slovak business interests directly in the territory.

The meeting initiated by Eximbanka also complemented a series of meetings that the Algerian ambassador had with representatives of economic diplomacy and the Slovak Investment and Trade Development Agency. The Ambassador thus gained a comprehensive overview of Slovakia’s export support instruments. During the meeting, she also promised Eximbank assistance in identifying suitable partners in Algeria in order to develop joint projects and strengthen economic cooperation between the two countries.
