In Izmir, Turkey, the official opening of a modern aluminium plant of a Slovak company took place with the participation of a delegation from Slovakia led by the State Secretary of the Ministry of Foreign and European Affairs of the Slovak Republic Rastislav Chovanec and the Director General of Eximbank Rastislav Podhorc. Turkey, with its strategic location, is an important trading partner and regional hub between Europe and Asia. Eximbanka’s banking activities have supported Slovak exports to Turkey in the amount of EUR 155.5 million since 2010.
Rastislav Podhorec, CEO of Eximbanka, on the occasion of the inauguration of the factory in Izmir, Turkey, organized by the Council of Slovak Exporters, said:
“The opening of the plant in Izmir, Turkey, represents an important milestone for the future of Slovak exports, which is the cornerstone of economic development and international reputation of Slovakia, thanks to the commitment, experience and approach of the Slovak company. The new factory with a planned annual production volume of 36,000 tonnes of secondary aluminium is also proof that Slovak companies know how to be competitive in a global context. Our commitment at Eximbank is to support Slovak exporters and enable them to enter foreign markets and compete with strong global players.”
With its strategic location, Turkey is an important trading partner and regional hub between Europe and Asia. The country has been striving to comply with European regulations and trade standards as part of its long-standing aspiration to become a member of the European Union. Investing in Turkey is associated with high exchange rate volatility, inflation and currency fluctuations. Rising public debt and the regional geopolitical risks present must also be taken into account. However, Turkey has a well-developed banking system and, with a population of 80 million, relatively low labour costs.
Eximbanka has supported Slovak exports to Turkey in the amount of EUR 155.5 million since 2010 as part of its banking activities.
