European export credit agencies seek a common response to global competition

Helsinki, 2. 6. 2026

Representatives of European Export Credit Agencies (ECAs) met at the EU ECA Summit 2026 in Helsinki to discuss a common approach to promote the competitiveness of the European Union, European industry and exporters in a changing global environment. The main theme of the discussions was the more effective use of export finance and insurance instruments to support the EU’s strategic priorities in global markets.

Representatives of the Eximbank discussed with representatives of European export credit agencies the possibilities of strengthening cooperation between ECA, the European Commission and European financial institutions in promoting the competitiveness of European exports.

Discussions focused in particular on how to make better use of the ECA’s financial and insurance instruments to support the strategic interests of the European Union, the development of European industry and increasing export opportunities for European companies. Participants also discussed the possibilities of closer cooperation with European institutions in the implementation of strategic investment and development projects outside the European Union.

“The current geopolitical and economic environment requires even more intensive cooperation between European export credit agencies. It is a coordinated approach that can make a significant contribution to European companies being able to compete successfully in global markets and win new business opportunities even in more challenging territories,” said Rastislav Podhorec, CEO of Eximbanka.

The Summit also confirmed the growing importance of export credit agencies as an instrument of the European Union’s economic and trade policy. The preparation of the EU’s next Multiannual Financial Framework (MFF) was also discussed, on which European ECAs are actively working with the European Commission to strengthen support mechanisms for European exports. The ongoing discussion on export promotion and new financial instruments also reflects the growing role and common approach of the European Export Credit Agencies (ECAs). Participants also addressed the further development of joint initiatives, the exchange of experiences and the strengthening of coordination between Member States to promote European exports, investment and economic security.

Eximbanka has a long-standing cooperation with partner export credit agencies in Europe and worldwide and actively participates in international discussions on the future of export financing and insurance. The EU ECA Summit provides a platform for sharing experiences and coordinating approaches to the current challenges facing European exporters in global markets.
