Slovak exporters to get €100 million financing boost through EIB agreement with Eximbanka

  • EIB teams up with Slovak export-credit agency Eximbanka to provide €100 million in financing for businesses seeking to expand internationally
  • Organisations each commit €50 million to promote innovation by Slovak small and medium-sized enterprises as well as mid-caps
  • Around 80% of financing to target companies in less developed Slovak regions

Slovak exporters will gain up to €100 million in favourablefinancing under a new agreement between the European Investment Bank (EIB) and the country’s export-credit agency, Eximbanka. The EIB is providing a €50 million loan to Eximbanka, which will match the sum and channel the total to Slovak businesses seeking to expand internationally.

The financing will support innovation and technological upgrades by Slovak small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) and mid-caps, with around 80% earmarked for businesses in less developed regions of Slovakia. The lending terms will include lower interest rates and longer maturities than are available in the traditional Slovak loan market.

“By giving companies easier access to longer-term funding, we help them grow and compete while supporting jobs and increasing the added value of Slovak exports,” said EIB Vice-President Marek Mora. “This is an important step towards boosting the competitiveness of Slovak companies in European markets and strengthening the domestic economy.”

The agreement builds on a longstanding partnership between the EIB and Eximbanka, including support for Slovak SMEs and mid-caps during the COVID-19 crisis. Eximbanka is the only Slovak public institution that provides export credits through loans, guarantees and insurance.

“This agreement represents another important step in strengthening our support for Slovak exporters and their competitiveness in international markets,” said Eximbanka CEO Rastislav Podhorec. “Our cooperation with EIB will improve access to long-term financing for innovation, modernisation and international expansion, while also supporting economic growth and new business opportunities in Slovakia’s less developed regions.”

The operation forms part of wide-ranging support for Slovak businesses by the EIB Group, which includes the European Investment Fund (EIF). Through partnerships with local financial institutions, the EIB Group helps SMEs and mid-caps finance digitalisation, energy efficiency and business expansion.

EIB Group
The European Investment Bank (EIB) Group is the financing arm of the European Union, owned by the 27 Member States, and one of the largest multilateral development banks in the world. In 2025, the EIB Group signed €100 billion in new financing and advisory services for more than 870 high-impact projects under eight core priorities supporting EU policy objectives: climate action and the environment, digitalisation and technological innovation, security and defence, territorial cohesion, agriculture and the bioeconomy, social infrastructure, strong global partnerships and the savings and investments union.

Eximbanka
Eximbanka, as Slovakia’s direct state instrument for export promotion, plays an important role in implementing the country’s economic policy in the field of external economic relations. It offers a wide range of export-related financial products, primarily export credit insurance, financing and guarantees. As the country’s official export credit agency, Eximbanka enables Slovak exporters to pursue international trade and investment opportunities where commercial financial institutions are less willing to assume the associated risks, thereby complementing the services provided by the commercial financial sector.
