It assists with day-to-day work tasks, but at the same time raises questions related to data security, the reliability of outputs, and accountability for their use. Eximbanka has therefore adopted an internal policy that establishes rules for the safe and responsible use and management of artificial intelligence systems at the bank.

The safe use of AI is particularly important for Eximbanka given the nature and sensitivity of the data it handles. Information about clients’ export contracts or their financial situation is subject to bank secrecy, and protecting this information is one of the fundamental prerequisites for the trust upon which export financing is based.

The rules therefore address specific risks associated with the use of AI—ranging from the potential leakage of protected information to external services, to the use of factually incorrect output in decision-making, to a loss of track of which AI tools are being used at the bank.

The policy specifies which AI tools employees may use at work and with which categories of data. It also establishes the process for approving and recording these tools, as well as the responsibilities associated with their use. Before deployment, each system is assessed in terms of risks and the requirements of the AI Act, and is documented along with its intended use and the designation of a responsible owner.

An important part of the rules is also the review of artificial intelligence outputs. If an AI-generated output is used in decision-making or is shared outside the bank, it must be appropriately labeled and verified by a responsible employee. Thus, a human—not the AI tool—remains responsible for its content.

The new rules take into account the requirements of the European Artificial Intelligence Regulation — the AI Act — as well as the international standard ISO/IEC 42001, adopted into the Slovak standards system as STN ISO/IEC 42001:2024. Their implementation also included employee training focused on the safe and responsible use of AI.

The goal of the adopted rules is not to hinder the use of artificial intelligence. On the contrary, they are intended to create an environment in which AI can be used effectively, safely, and transparently. For a bank that handles sensitive data and whose operations rely on customer trust, the responsible management of new technologies is a natural part of its ongoing development.

Artificial intelligence is rapidly becoming a natural part of the workplace.
