On 26 March 2026, Eximbanka participated in the V4 ECA Conference in Budapest, where the export credit agencies of the V4 countries discussed the current economic and geopolitical developments, the regulatory environment and new priorities in export promotion. At the expert forum, the ECA presented its priorities, which reflect the changing structure of the economy, the growing importance of strategic sectors and the need to strengthen the competitiveness of Slovak exporters. <\/strong><\/p>\n\n

Rastislav Podhorec, CEO of Eximbanka, stated at the conference of export credit agencies of the V4 countries in Budapest that Slovak exports will need stronger support in strategic sectors and new markets in the coming years. Slovakia cannot continue to rely solely on the current growth model. Sectors with higher added value and long-term importance for the economy, especially energy, defence and other segments where Slovak companies have the know-how and the space to establish themselves abroad, will be of greater importance. Eximbanka wants to be a partner in this process where stable and meaningful export support is needed. <\/p>\n\n

“If we want Slovak exports to be competitive in the long term, we need more support in areas that will be important for the economy in a few years. This is where export support should have its firm place,” said Rastislav Podhorec. <\/p>\n\n

He identified the nuclear industry as a particularly important topic. Slovakia has a strong professional background in this area and new opportunities are opening up in the region. Eximbanka therefore considers it important for Slovak companies to be able to engage in large projects and to have adequate financial support, including cooperation with partner institutions abroad. <\/p>\n\n

The defence industry is experiencing a dynamic growth in the V4 region and throughout Europe. This development is also reflected in the strategy of several manufacturers from the automotive sector, which are increasingly focusing on this segment. This is where individual export credit agencies play an important role, as they represent a stable partner for defence industry clients where commercial banks often take a more cautious approach to financing in similar transactions. <\/p>\n\n

Eximbanka wants to look more at the broader benefits of a particular project for the Slovak economy when supporting exports. It is not only about the trade itself, but also whether it helps to strengthen energy security, industrial development and Slovakia’s position in strategic sectors. <\/p>\n\n

Export diversification was also an important topic of the negotiations. It is increasingly important for Slovak companies to promote themselves outside traditional markets. Eximbanka therefore sees prospects, for example, in Central and South-East Asia, the Western Balkans or sub-Saharan Africa. <\/p>\n\n

“It will be increasingly important for Slovak companies not only to stay in existing markets, but also to be able to establish themselves in new ones. We see a clear role for Eximbanka there as well,” added Rastislav Podhorec. <\/p>\n\n

The topic of how sanctions regimes and regulatory rules affect export financing and the willingness of banks to enter into such deals also resonated at the forum in Budapest. Also from the Eximbank’s perspective, it is important to make this environment as predictable and understandable as possible. Slovakia will take over the V4 presidency in summer 2026, so the next V4 ECA conference will be hosted by Eximbank. <\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
